Description

The Complete Persepolis is author, Marjane Satrapi's best-selling, internationally acclaimed memoir-in-comic-strips, in one handy volume.

Persepolis is the story of Satrapi's unforgettable childhood and coming of age within a large and loving family in Tehran, Iran during the Islamic Revolution; of the contradictions between private life and public life in a country plagued by political upheaval; of her high school years in Vienna facing the trials of adolescence far from her family; of her homecoming - both sweet and terrible; and finally, of her self-imposed exile from her beloved homeland. It is the chronicle of a girlhood and adolescence at once outrageous and familiar, a young life entwined with the history her country, yet filled with the universal trials and joys of growing up.

Edgy, searingly observant, and candid, often heartbreaking but threaded throughout with raw humour and hard-earned wisdom -  Persepolis is a stunning work from one of the most highly regarded, singularly talented grahic artist at work today.

Praise for Persepolis

"Wildly charming... Like a letter from a friend, in this case a wonderful friend: honest, strong-willed, funny, tender, impulsive, and self-aware" - Luc Sante, The New York Times Book Review
"Elegant, simple panels tells this story of growth, loneliness, and homecoming with pognant charm and wit" - The Washington Post
"Every revolution needs a chronicle like Satrapi." - The San Francisco Chronicle
"Marjane Satrapi's books are a revelation. They're funny, they're sad, they're hugely readable. Most importantly, they remind you that the media sometimes tell you the facts but rarely tell you the truth. In one afternoon, Persepolis will teach you more about Iran, about being an outsider, about being human, than you could learn from a thousand hours of television documentaries and newspaper articles. And you will remember it for a very long time." - Mark Haddon, author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
"Delectable... dances with drama and insouciant wit" - The New York Times Book Review
"I thought [Persepolis] was a superb piece of work, not only for the developing child's eye-view of a society unknown to many of us in the west, and feared and suspected in proportion to being unknown... Satrapi has found a way of depicting human beings that is both simple and immediately comprehensible, AND is almost infinitely flexible." - Philip Pullman, Author of the Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass
